A2A Releases Wings of Silver Stratocruiser

A2A Simulations is has released the Wings of Silver Boeing 377 Stratocruiser along with the first of a brand new technology line of realism expansion packs for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. These two simultaneous releases represent a quantum leap forward for A2A Simulations and Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

A2A writes, "A2A Simulations insists on finding better ways to reach all customers, and not just those who can afford the highest quality products. We invested two to three times the man hours into our new Stratocruiser than any previous project. A2A also expanded operations with programmers and put an additional large investment into our brand new Accu-Sim technology base, which comes in the form of a single expansion pack that plugs right into the aircraft. Some of our customers buy our products for the sheer look, feel, and function. They are true aircraft enthusiasts, but they are not interested in detailed engine management. They want to load up the aircraft, throw the throttle forward, fly it, look at it, listen to it, and pretty much just take in the whole experience. However, there is another customer we have that is equally as passionate about the way an aircraft looks and sounds, but they demand more. They demand a simulation that places them in the most realistic environment, including consequences to their actions. These are the people who pick up game boxes at the store and weigh it to judge how thick the manual is. This is what the Accu-Sim Expansion pack is all about."

"The Wings of Silver Boeing 377 Accu-Sim expansion pack includes everything from detailed engine management to a naturally speaking crew and passengers that applaud when you make a nice landing. Once installed it can be turned on or off with a single button click, however our testers found Accu-Sim so immersive they had a hard time turning it off,” said Lewis Bloomfield of A2A Simulations Inc. “This is our finest work to date,” said Robert Rogalski of A2A Simulations Inc.

A2A has priced these products accordingly to allow many to come aboard an experience this package. For more information and to get pricing details, visit A2A Simulations.

AlphaSim Releases the SR-71 for FSX

AlphaSim has released their SR-71 Blackbird for Flight Simulator X (SP1/SP2/Acceleration).

The package features an all new model – complete with new textures with bump-mapping, self-shadowing, and bloom effect.

Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird

The Lockheed SR-71 is without doubt one of the most advanced aircraft ever built. Built from a need to go higher and faster, in complete secrecy, a total of 31 SR-71s were built including two trainer models. The only manned aircraft ever to cruise above Mach 3, the SR-71 flew over most of the hot spots around the world and was able to bring nearly real-time intelligence on what the enemy was doing. During its career it was said to have outrun hundreds of missiles fired in attempts to down it. After being retired from the USAF, NASA acquired two SR-71s for high speed research programs. In 1995 the SR-71 program rose like a Phoenix and re-entered the USAF inventory operating from Det 2 at Edwards AFB - utilising #971, #967 and the 'B' model #956. But in June 1999, the SR-71 operations from Det 2 were closed down amid a lack of operational deployments, and the SR-71's fate was sealed in October 1999 when NASA's #980 flew its last ever flight.

New FSX Tutorials Section

In our continuing effort to make FSX an enjoyable experience for everyone, we at High Flight Simulations have created the FSX Tutorials section to help all FS Pilots, from the beginner to advanced, better understand the basic fundamentals and procedures of flying.

Microsoft FS tutorials tend to be vague and over technical, therefore we have developed these fundamental sections to better help those understand the basics of flight instrumentation, airports and simple radio navigation procedures involved in real flying.

These sections will help individuals adapt them to flight simulation, thus providing more of an "as real as it gets" simulation experience.

Click on the FSX Tutorials tab above to enter.

FSUIPC 4.26 for FSX

Full release of FSUIPC 4 (incorporating WideFS 7) for use with FSX March 6, 2008

FSUIPC4 is a completely new version of FSUIPC designed for FSX and hopefully all future versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It is built around the new Microsoft interface named ‘SimConnect’ which is used almost (but not yet quite) exclusively for its interactions with FSX. This should guarantee it compatibility with future versions as Microsoft become responsible for maintaining the simConnect interface itself. The function of FSUIPC, now that developers have an official Microsoft interface they can use, is still twofold, as it has been over the last seven years.

High Flight Simulations Introduces the Lockheed L-049A Constellation v3.0 (Final Version) FSX SP2/Acceleration

High Flight Simulations is pleased to introduce the Lockheed Constellation L-049A v3.0. This version is modified from v2.2 for FSX SP/2 Acceleration compatibility. The Lockheed L-049 Constellation was one of the most graceful airliners placed in service between the end of World War II in 1945 and the advent of the commercial jet age in the mid-1950's. With its long, sinuous fuselage and gently tapered, upswept wings, the sleek Constellation suggested a seagull in flight.

This package includes the complete aircraft with everything you need to start flying. A 2-D Panel with modern radios for easier navigation and a customized sound set are included. Customized gauges. ***New for v3.0 - Camera Views have been added for better outside viewing.*** There is no VC available.

Liveries (in DXT3 Format) include Air France, BOAC, Braniff, Capitol, Delta Airlines, KLM, L' Air Azur, Pan American Airways, Quantis Empire, TWA (Pre 1950's) & TWA (White). This aircraft will work in all versions of FSX, but has not been tested on DirectX10.

The Lockheed Constellation v1.1 was recently featured in PC Pilot Magazine Winter Special Edition and was awarded the FlightSim.com Design of the Month Award in January, 2007.

Phoenix Simulation Software Has Ceased Trading

PSS Press Release - 1/16/2008

In an attempt to halt the current speculation surrounding Phoenix Simulation Software, the closure of their web site and the lack of response to support and emails, I would like to make public the following statements.

PHOENIX SIMULATION SOFTWARE
REGRET TO ANNOUNCE

That the Company and web site have ceased trading.

PSS have experienced severe difficulties both of a personal and financial level that unfortunately at this time cannot be remedied. The financial difficulties are mainly caused by the individuals who preferred to use sites like pirate bay instead of paying to support the growth and continuation of PSS and then clogging up our forums with technical support queries for products you don't actually own , You know who you are! As a result of this former CEO Graham Waterfield has been left with no alternative but the closure of the company and early retirement.

However, I Antony Waterfield son of Graham along with an investment consortium are in the process of establishing a new company and acquiring the rights, intellectual property & existing customer base from PSS in order that we may keep the company alive and progress it to a higher level.

This will include but is not limited to the following:

  • Improved more user friendly web site/ product catalog.
  • Improved technical support system including knowledge base and ticketing.
  • Upgrade existing products to FSX where possible.
  • Development of further Expansion products for Fs2004/FSX

In the mean time a limited version of the former PSS web site system will be available shortly so existing customers can gain access to previously purchased products and we are taking steps to reintroduce a basic temporary technical support system.

I would like to personally thank the Avsim staff, Tom Allensworth, Robert Kirkland along with John Room, Rob Elliot, Ben Jones etc. for their continued effort supporting the users of PSS products in the forums during this outage.

GAPALP - In-Cabin Browser

In-Cabin Browser: Surf the Internet, read the html help on how to use the GPS while you are actually using it, watch the latest YouTube Flight Sim video, or read pdf files or other useful file formats to pass the time on that 2 hour flight. All from within the comfort of your FSX or FS9 airplane cabin!

No more need to switch between a stand alone web browser and Flight Simulator, which causes a loss of realism since you lose sound and cannot focus on your Flight Simulator window when this is done. When you need to get back to checking the aircraft controls, just hide the browser and, when you are ready, return to what you were looking at.

This browser is designed to run within the Flight Simulator environment and has a simple interface in order to minimize the graphics impact on Flight Simulator. Running FSX or FS9 in windowed mode is the recommended use of In-Cabin Browser and you will receive the maximum benefits from doing that, such as negligible frame rate hit. In Cabin Browser will run in FSX and FS9 full screen mode, with some choppiness and loss frame rates when fast scrolling Internet pages on certain computer hardware (such as dual core processors). Configuration settings are suggested to minimize this impact, such as Flight Simulator configuration file tweaks, in the help file. Local file formats supported and viewable within In Cabin Browser are html, htm, pdf, xml, and txt.
